RMIT University are leading a network of international research and industry experts in tackling the waste associated with end-of-life (EoL) photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Together we are developing a state-of-the-art resource recovery and purification process for EoL PV panels. Our research and development explores electrochemical, thermal and selective dissolution processes to treat PV waste. We are also exploring innovative commercial models, aimed at re-using EoL PV panels before they enter waste streams.

The project receives funding under the International Clean Innovation Research Network: an Australian Government funded program.

2025: ICIRN Consortium Developing White Paper Report on PV Recycling and Circular Economy Opportunities in Aus

ICIRN partners, along with RMIT experts, UNSW, The University of Melbourne, The University of Mercia (Spain), and various industry collaborators are collaborating on the production of a White Paper entitled: PV Recycling, Reuse, and Circular Economy Opportunities. We aim to release the report in late 2025 to support policymakers, industry players, and reseachers refine their activities and strategies to deal with the enormous quantities of end-of-life PV waste in Australia.

This work will consolidate the ICIRN group’s research and development into a single reference source, a valuable asset for government, academics, and industry players alike.
